On the 25th March 2019, the New Vision posted a list of the registered and practicing architects for the year 2019. This is done annually by the Architects Registration Board. This Board is charged with maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and competence in the practice and regulation of Architecture in the country.

There is no law saying you have to employ a qualified architect or engineer when constructing your home; that is entirely up to you. When looking to construct your dream home or any other building, you will benefit from the expert design help of an experienced, licensed architect. This will greatly impact on the cost and quality of your project.

The society probably thinks architects are very expensive and are only necessary when building multimillion dollar homes. The truth is architects are well worth the extra cost on large construction jobs because with thoughtful evaluation and design, they can meet or even exceed your expectations. The fees charged by an architect for design and documentation are way less compared to the total cost of constructing and operating the building throughout its useful life. By investing in the services of an architect, you ensure an exploration of various options for the design of your building, and you get the exhilaration and satisfaction of getting what you want.

Many people ask, why need an architect when you have an engineer? Let me break it down for you. The two main designers of a building are the architect and the engineer. The responsibilities of engineers and architects often overlap, but their roles are actually different. An architect focuses more on the artistry and design of the building, while the engineer focuses more on the technical and structural side. While the architect is concerned with making the building aesthetically pleasing, an engineer makes sure that the building is functional, safe, and meets all appropriate building codes.  Both professions are integral to the design and construction of your home. Architects design the space to meet client needs, as well as the exquisite appearance of the inside and exterior of the building.

With this in mind, you need to know why it is important for you to have a registered architect to design your home. An architect offers a level of professional service and expertise which no other building professional can provide. The role of the architect stretches way beyond simply designing your home.  An architect works as a team leader, coordinating a team of specialist consultants such as landscape architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, interior designers, builders and subcontractors. He/ she literally handles the whole project as you relax and watch your dream house come to reality. He lifts the pressure off you, delivering quality work without compromising your house design or your wallet. He will handle the Paperwork; hire the people to carry on the project, as he understands the design of your project best.

Architects can help you prioritize your wish list into options that allow you to be the one in charge of how and where you spend your hard earnedmoney. When you hire an architect, you are assured of quality documentation, good construction administration, protection from unlicensed frauds posing as contractors and will basically offer solutions to any problems on your construction projects. He can save you a lot of trouble or extra costs that may arise from small mistakes such as the floor plan failing to match with furniture.

The integrity of your new home should not be trusted to anyone other than a licensed, official architect. If you engage an architect, you will always end up with a better end product. Architects are highly trained and are especially good at seeing the big picture in making the best of the space you have, getting interesting designs, ensuring that the light is right, the feel is good, and that the house works. They are not only experts at seeing the big picture, but also the hundreds of tiny steps between concept and completion.
